Volunteers dressed as monks will do guided tours of Beauvale Priory as part of the Eastwood Arts Festival this weekend.

On Sunday, July 22, between 11am and 3pm, volunteers will take on the characters of historical figures linked to the priory, bringing its rich history to life.

The £1 tours will last 30 minutes and due to the wet weather parking on the site will be limited, although disabled parking will be available.

English Heritage is currently working with a team of conservation architects and archaeologists to preserve the priory, which is at Beuavale Abbey Farm in New Road, Moorgreen.

Founded in 1343 by Nicholas de Cantilupe as a silent order of Carthusian monks, Beauvale Priory remained peaceful until the Dissolution of the Monasteries when the community refused to acknowledge Henry VIII as the head of the Church in England.
