Morrisons new store in Ilkeston will open on Monday, January 19.
The new store on Nottingham Road will include a flower shop, a ‘make your own’ pizza counter, plus the Nutmeg range of clothing for boys and girls of all ages.
A spokesman for the supermarket chain said: “The store’s Concept café was designed with modern British café décor in mind and features movable seating for buggy and wheelchair access, free wi-fi areas and Barista style coffee with free refills.”
The store’s new general manager, Craig Flewitt, will cut the ribbon to offically declare the store open.
He will be joined by a local competition winner , who took part in a colouring contest at schools and childrens’ clubs in Ilkeston.
The new store has created around 200 jobs in the town and is expected to help unemployment levels reduce.
The store is situated on the old Derby College site between Field Road and Nottingham Road.
Planning permission was granted in October 2012 by Erewash Borough Council and building work began in January last year and was carried out by Heage based firm Bowmer and Kirkland.
A time capsule has been buried at the site by children from local schools, containing items relevant to 2014, the year it was buried.
See next week’s Advertiser for pictures of the new store’s grand opening.
Morrisons has around 490 stores across the country, including in Belper and Eastwood.
