Motorcross track bid turned down

A PLAN to build a motorcross track in Morley has been refused planning permission after scores of residents, a school and a rambling group objected.

Applicant Michael Toone planned to create the track for riders and a parking for 100 cars in a six-acre field in greenbelt off Acorn Way – just 500m from homes.

Debbie Andrews of Spondon – one of 170 residents to submit an objection – said the noise from the track would ‘stop us enjoying our gardens’ and Erewash Ramblers raised concerns about the loss of wildlife in the Lees Brook.

Headteacher Phil Dover at nearby Lees Brook school in Spondon said: “I have serious concerns about the impact on the learning environment. I think the noise would be unbearable.”

Erewash Borough Council’s planning committee unanimously turned down the application on Wednesday. Cllr John Frudd said the bid was ‘unbelievable’.
