A mum has raised more than £1,000 for Derbyshire fire service in memory of her son

Ruth Siddalls has raised £1,581.46 which she will be handing over to the Fire Fighters Charity on Monday, May, 23.

Daniel Spencer lost his life in a house fire on Valentine’s Day and an investigation concluded that the cause of the fire was unattended cooking. There were not any working smoke alarms in Daniel’s home on the night of the fire.

Since the fire, Ruth and her family have raised money for the Fire Fighters Charity as a thank you to the firefighters who attended on the evening of the fire and tried to rescue Daniel.

A charity fund raising event, held in Daniels honour, took place at a local pub in Derbyshire on April 16 where Ruth and her family also courageously spoke about the fire and raised awareness of the importance of having working smoke alarms fitted.

She said: “Daniel’s death has been devastating for me and my family and we all miss him deeply.

“I hope by raising money for the Fire Fighters Charity and also speaking out about the importance of having working smoke alarms fitted, I can prevent another family having to go through the heartache we have.”
