CUPCAKES and all things sweet are the basis of an Ilkeston mum’s new bakery business.
Kerryann Hobbs, 37, is starting up Can’t Resist Cakes in a bid to beat her battle with depression which she has suffered on and off for 20 years.
The mum of two told the Advertiser: “I’d been training to be a mental health nurse and was within two months of completing the course when I had to have a hysterectomy.
“I tried to go back and complete the course after but I just couldn’t.
“Working with people that were so down was getting me down as well and I realised I just couldn’t do it.
“I don’t regret the course because if I hadn’t done it I wouldn’t be where I am now.”
Kerryann’s children Kieran, 17, and Freya, six, have supported her throughout and even helped set up the new business.
“I’ve got Kieran setting me up a website and Freya’s going to be helping me when we launch the business.”
Can’t Resist Cakes will take up a stall on Ilkeston’s Market Place on Saturday, June 25, from early morning until 5pm.
They will be handing out free tasters, running a cupcake-themed raffle and taking their first official orders.
Kerryann added: “I’m really excited about the business and can’t wait to get properly started.
“I never thought I’d be setting up my own business but I’m really glad I am.
“I used to bake as a bit of a hobby but when people started complementing me on my cakes I just thought why not?
“I enjoy making them and I plan to offer cake making workshops to get other people baking too.
“By next year I’d like to run a shop but that all depends on how running the business from home goes first.”
