A man who was fatally stabbed in the early hours of yesterday morning has been named locally.

Police were called to Charlotte Street in Cotmanhay at 5.35am on Thursday following reports of a robbery at the One Stop store, which was targeted just last month.

Shortly after they received calls to say two men had been stabbed at a house in the same street.

Paul Averill, in his 30s, died at the scene and a 23-year-old suffered life-threatening injuries and is being treated at Queen’s Medical Centre.

A third man, also 23, has been arrested on suspicion of murder and suspicion of wounding.

The two incidents are currently being investigated by police as separate incidents.
