John Longdon and Richard MacRae officially became the latest councillors to join Stapleford Town Council this week.

Both men were elected in the Stapleford North Ward by-election which was held on Thursday January 23.

Cllr John Longdon has been a Stapleford Town Councillor before as well as Mayor of Stapleford and also Broxtowe.

On reclaiming his seat he pledged to fight to protect greenbelt and added: “It’s an excellent result and I’m looking forward to getting back on to the council.”

Cllr Richard MacRae is Chairman of the Stapleford Community Group and member of various other groups and organisations in Stapleford.

He said: “I’m over the moon and very thankful to the people of Stapleford that came out in force to support me.

“I’d like to work on creating local jobs for local people and, as I’m not tied to a party, I can really represent the residents 100 per cent.”

A total of 802 people turned out to cast their votes at the polling station out of an electorate of 3,780.
