An Ilkeston singer is aiming to hit the high notes after injecting new life into a popular Ilkeston town-centre venue.
Vicky Johnson, 47, has taken over Gladstone Lodge in Market Street, which was only previously opened for private bookings.
Now the attraction, which has been undergoing a refurbishment, aims to draw in the locals of Ilkeston with speciality theme evenings and open mic nights.
Former nightclub singer, Vicky, purchased the building in June and has big plans.
“We plan to host free speciality nights once a week to start with, including 80s, 60s and country and western nights,” she said.
“We’re also in the process of setting up an open mic night so people can come up and have a sing-song.”
Ms Johnson gave up her singing career when she bought the lodge as she had always wanted to run a freehouse.
She added: “Before long it’ll probably be open every night.”
There are also possible plans for an extension to the back of the building, which will see a new conservatory and smoking area.
Gladstone Lodge will officially open to the public for Mowtown night on August 1.
