New officer on town beat

A NEW volunteer police officer will start his patrols in Ilkeston this week.

Special Constable Gareth Hallsworth, 33, joined 13 other new recruits taking their oath at an attestation ceremony last week.

Assistant Chief Constable Dee Collins said: “The role of a special constable provides fantastic experience. They will get a taste of what it is like to work in the police force and develop the skills needed to deal with a diverse range of people and situations.”

The new officers start work after two months of studying and a selection process.

Derbyshire Constabulary is looking for new recruits to join the Special Constabulary.
