RUMOURS that a decision has already been made over a Tesco store in Sandiacre are hampering the campaign to stop the store being built.
Action group, A Future for the Sandiacre Community, applauded Erewash Borough Council for trying to spread the message that a decision has not been made after false reports appeared in other press.
Rosalind Heydon, head of the group, said: “We’re very pleased that the council have taken steps to let people know that a decision has not been made.
“There are proper and democratic processes to go through and that is what’s happening.
“Letters have been sent to the council ahead of the planning meeting and we will be there to make representation.
“The bottom line is that if the store is built than it will have a knock on effect not just for Sandiacre but for the whole area.”
A spokesman for Erewash Borough Council said: “We wish to make it clear that the planning application for a Tesco store in Sandiacre is still to be heard and can categorically confirm that no decision has been made.
“The application will go before a future meeting of the council’s Planning Committee – likely to be in the Spring – which is a public meeting and local residents are able to attend.”
The formal consultation period about this application has ended, but the council will still consider comments if anyone has observations they would like to submit.
These can be emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org or posted to the council.
