The organisers of Long Eaton Carnival have invited people who were due to take part in Ilkeston Carnival on Saturday to join their event.
The annual Ilkeston event, organised by Ilkeston Lions Club, was cancelled due to heavy rain on Saturday.
Chair of the Ilketon lions, Sue Birch, said: “My husband Ray went to the ground at 7.15am on Saturday and it was waterlogged. It wasn’t our decision to cancel - the cricket ground can’t have lorries going over a waterlogged pitch, it was ultimately the decision of Rutland Recreation Ground.
“It’s very upsetting that we had to cancel, we have got a lot of money to refund to stall holders. Some people have said to keep hold of it for next year’s event.”
Anyone who was due to have a float in the parade, or a stall, has been invited to join Long Eaton Carnival.
Events manager, Ady Johnson, said: “We will take as many people as want to come. Anyone stall holders can call up and the forms will be filled in over the phone. We have invited the carnival queen and will introduce her as the Ilkeston carnival queen.
“We won’t cancel event if it rains, we have a contingency plan.”
Sue said she was aware of the gesture but that the transport company used for the floats may not be available for Long Eaton carnival on Saturday.
. The parade starts at 11am at West Park, Long Eaton. Anyone who wants to take part in the parade can call Ady on 07923 053 776. To book a stall call Laura Whotton on 07866 076 264.
