Peacocks store survives the chop

ILKESTON’s Peacocks shop will stay open after the struggling firm was bought out by The Edinburgh Woollen Mill Group.

The store’s future hung in the balance earlier this year when the company was forced into administration.

The buy out, which was announced in March, saved 6,000 jobs across the UK in 388 stores.

But another 224 stores – including Derby, Nottingham and Mansfield – have been closed, resulting in 3,100 job losses.

Kerryanne Austin, Store Manager said: “I would like to personally thank all of our loyal customers for their support over the past few months when the company went through a difficult period.

“We are delighted that Peacocks has recently been bought by The Edinburgh Woollen Mill Group and will remain in Ilkeston as a Peacocks store.

“Once again, a big thank you for all of your support and we look forward to welcoming you very soon.”
