Money raised by the ‘Tisers Pennies for Heros campaign has been handed over to Help For Heroes and the Royal British Legion.
Hundreds of pounds was raised when we asked you to donate pennies to raise funds to plant a tree in Ilkeston, to mark the centenary of the start of World War One. There was so much money left over that it meant we could give some to benefit military charities.
Dave Woodward and John Cam from the Ilkeston branch of the RBL, and Paula Allen, a volunteer from Help For Heroes, collected the cheques for £323 on Friday.
Mr Cam said: “We are very pleased with the donation from the public of Ilkeston and will be using it to further the legion’s work in the town.”
Paula said the donation would go into the national pot to help injured soldiers and their families.
