A COUNCIL plan to build two semi-detached houses on its former depot in Long Eaton is facing opposition from neighbours.

Residents at Brindley House retirement home in Welbeck Road, close to the former College Street depot, have submitted a petition to Erewash Borough Council’s planning committee objecting on the grounds that the houses will cause problems for the elderly residents’ access to the bus stop and shops.

Neighbours have also complained that removal of bushes will cause a loss of wildlife, reduce car parking places and create extra traffic.

But, at a meeting due to be held last night, planning officers are to recommend that the application should be approved as long as new vehicular access is formed to the site from Welbeck Road,
