People shopping in Stapleford on Saturday were encouraged to sign a petition to stop the former police station being turned into an Aldi.

The company is set to open a store in the town, but as yet no decision has been made on its location.

The plans would see the creation of 40 jobs.

Aldi has been consulting the public on its plans for a new food store at the Pinfold Trading Estate, off Nottingham Road, since September 2014.

The chain hoped to submit a formal planning application by the end of February, but Broxtowe Borough Council asked it to look at two new sites including the former police station in Toton Lane. Pictured are Grenville Green, Councillor Richard MacRae, Linda MacRae, Helene Green and Danni MacRae.
