Beacon-lighting events have been held in Ilkeston, Long Eaton and Stapleford as part of the worldwide celebration to officially commemorate the Queen’s 90th birthday.
Special beacons were lit yesterday evening (Thursday) on the Market Place in both Ilkeston and Long Eaton town centres.
Mayor of Erewash, Councillor Val Custance, had the honour of lighting the Ilkeston beacon and was joined by the Mayor’s Cadets.
The borough’s deputy mayor, Councillor Abey Stevenson, lit the Long Eaton beacon.
Meanwhile, people from across Broxtowe attended the Stapelford event at The Old Cross Inn Pub, alongside Mayor of the Borough of Broxtowe, Councillor Susan Bagshaw, and Town Mayor of Stapleford, Councillor Ray Darby.
Great British sausage and mash was on offer in the pub, with all proceeds going to the mayor’s charities, Forces In The Community and Nottingham Children’s Hospital.
