Plans are in full swing as the countdown begins to Ilkeston’s first ever food and drink fair.

Ilkeston cafe owners Gordon and Carol Pringle are organising the fair, which will take place on October 12 this year.

The fair is scheduled to be held at Ilkeston Rugby Club, in Hallam Fields Road, between 10am and 4pm and will offer a selection of eclectic and continental foods. Carol said the plans were coming together and she hopes the event, expected to see a crowd of thousands attend, will be a success.

“It’s certainly building and I am now working on live entertainment for the day,” she said.

“I’m also looking for bands to showcase their talent at the event.”

A list of names that will be attending the food and drinks fair has now been revealed.

Carol added: “I am very excited to say we have got some brilliant new exhibitors.”

The list of food exhibitors now includes Lindsay’s Still Room, which recently won two gold stars at the Great Taste Awards; Leafbone Woodfired Pizza Oven; Julie’s Pickles and Preserves, Pudding and Pie Cafe, Bedazzled Cupcakes and Litton Larder.

Also making an appearance will be Old Schoolhouse Deli Cafe and Cafe Ali, which was a regional finalist on ITV’s Britain’s Best Dish and which has also made cakes for the likes of David Cameron and Katie Price.

On the list of drinks exhibitors, are names such as Nutbrook Brewery; Spire Brewery and Azorieblue Coffee.

Other food and drink attractions lined up include a hog roast by Andrew Wint from Oakfield Farm shop; Homemade Delights’ sweet/savoury biscuits and cakes; Simply Cakes by Catherine; Emma’s Pantry & Preserves; Ooh La Laa Crepes & Oatcakes, the owner of which, Kay Dearing, made the cake for the Queen when she came to Chatsworth House.

Also confirmed are: Sister’s Cuisine; The English Chocolate Fountain Co; and The Ultimate Fudge Outlet.

The couple hope to make the festival an annual occasion for the town and are still appealing for exhibitors and sponsors.

Entry to the food and drink fair on October 12 will cost no more than £1.
