Derbyshire police is launching a campaign to highlight to parents the importance of choosing the right child car seat and fitting it correctly.
The force, supported by other organisations which make up the Derby and Derbyshire Road Safety Partnership, is working with Halfords to offer drivers free child seat safety checks and money off a new seat.
At the start of the new term, staff from the partnership will visit schools during peak school run hours to talk to parents about the laws surrounding seatbelts and child seat usage.
Chief Inspector Steve Wilson, head of roads policing, said: “The start of a new school year is an ideal time for drivers to familiarise themselves with the laws surrounding seatbelt and car seat use.”
