Police object to bid for late opening by pizza takeaway

AN ILKESTON takeaway has applied to the council’s licensing panel to extend its opening hours by 90 minutes.

Licensing enforcement supervisor with Derbyshire police Mark Lomas has objected to the bid from Star Pizza Express in South Street on the grounds that it could put ‘added stretch on emergency services’.

He said: “The applicant himself called for police assistance in September 2010 some 15 minutes after the premises should have closed.”

Another objection was received from Matthew Hall, planning enforcement officer at Erewash Borough Council, because the planning permission restricts the business to opening no later than 1.30am.

Applicant Latif Saglam will find out if he can extend the opening hours to 3am at a licensing meeting on Monday.
