A new main style Post Office will open at News Express on South Street.
The Post Office says that extended opening hours will make the new branch more convenient, as people will now have more choice of times to visit with earlier opening, later closing and service on Saturday afternoon and Sunday.
The date for the relocation has yet to be confirmed.
Regional manager, Simon Drinkwater, said: “We are confident this vibrant new-style Post Office at the heart of the community will meet customer needs.”
It will have four counters; two new style open-plan positions, a secure fortress position and open-plan terminal.
Services during the extended opening hours, include Special Delivery, Local Collect, home shopping returns, online banking cash deposits and withdrawals.
Other services include withdrawals using a Post Office Card Account, sending funds abroad using Moneygram, and customers can pay bills, pre-order travel money, apply for travel insurance and top up mobile phones.
Posters will be displayed in the present Ilkeston Post Office at The Market Place, Ilkeston, DE7 5SG to advise customers of when the move will take place.
Mr Drinkwater said: “We are making it easier for customers to get their cash, send and collect their mail and do their banking because we know how important these services are to local residents.
“This modernisation is part of a major investment programme, the largest in the history of the Post Office and will secure services for the future. The investment marks a commitment to no more branch closures programme”.
The branch itself will open from 9am - 5:30pm Monday to Saturday, with selected Post Office products and services available from the retail counter during shop opening hours, which are 6am - 8pm Monday to Friday and 6am to 12pm (noon) on Sunday.
