Post Office tax plan for towns

I am pleased that the borough council is encouraging residents to use their local Post Offices and Paypoints to pay their council tax.

Direct debits are the best way to pay your council tax, but I know that many residents prefer to use cash. For that reason people will still be able to pay in cash at Ilkeston and Long Eaton Town Halls.

However, I would much rather a pensioner paid their council tax at their own local Post Office at the same time as collecting their pension, than walk or catch the bus into the centre of town carrying a lot of cash on them.

This idea came from the council’s scrutiny committee, but unfortunately the local Labour party will not represent their residents by serving on this and other Council committees. Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face.
