As the planned closure date for Ilkeston’s walk-in centre and a GP surgery, campaigners are planning to protest outside the building tomorrow (Friday).
All 1,500 patients registered with Ilkeston Family Practice are being urged to join the protest from 4pm to 6.30pm on the site of Ilkeston Community Hospital.
Organisers want NHS Derbyshire and Erewash CCG to review the decision and hold a consultation with residents.
The decision will leave the town without a walk-in centre, forcing patients to travel to Nottingham or Derby instead.
NHS Derbyshire has argued that there is a good out-of-hours service at other Ilkeston GP surgeries and the 24-hour 111 service.
Campaigner Amanda Jackson said: “They have made the wrong decision, at the wrong time and it gives the impression of the wrong priorities for healthcare provision in Ilkeston.”
More than 5,000 people have signed the group’s petition in just 12 weeks.
The closure is scheduled for Thursday February 28.
