MORE than £100,000 will be spent on a new playground at Shipley Country Park.
The natural adventure playground will have a 50 metre cableway, a big slide, swings and climbing equipment.
The cost of the project will be funded by £40,000 from Derbyshire County Council, £40,000 from UK Coal and £30,000 from the national Playbuilder fund.
Pupils from Mapperley Primary School and Bennerley Fields School and other local schools helped to come up with the design.
Cllr Simon Spencer, Derbyshire County Council’s cabinet member for highways and transport, said: “There’s already so much to do at Shipley Country Park but this is great news for children and young people.
“The design will ensure it complements the natural surroundings and we hope it encourages even more people to visit this beautiful country park.
“There’s so much to do at Shipley already from walking, cycling, horse-riding and bird-watching, through to angling, picnicking, kite flying and much more.”
The play site will be created near the main entrance, close to the visitor centre and car park.
Work is due to start next month and should be finished in the spring.
