Derby College’s Ilkeston campus will officially close on Friday December 6 in preparation for the new £10m campus to open on Monday January 13 on the site of the former Magistrates Court.

Around 800 students and 200 staff will be based at the new purpose-built campus on a wide range of courses including brickwork, carpentry and joinery, painting and decorating, tiling and plastering, hairdressing and hospitality.

Students will be working at other campuses or carrying out work placements with local businesses until the end of this term.

Derby College Chief Executive Mandie Stravino explained: “This is an exciting new chapter for further education in Ilkeston.

“We made a commitment when we merged with South East Derbyshire College that gnificant investment would be made in facilities for staff and students in Ilkeston and we are looking forward to the opening of the new campus.

“The curriculum on offer at the new multi-million Ilkeston campus will continue to be vocational focused – ensuring that young people have the employability skills they need to get a job and progress their careers.

“It will provide the local community in Ilkeston and the surrounding area with the state of the art facilities that they deserve and brings facilities in this area in line with the multi-million pound investment in place at our other sites.”
