In a bid to speed up pothole repairs before the summer months begin, Derbyshire County Council is set to start using a specialist ‘jetpatcher’ machine following it’s arrival this week.

As part of the council’s plan to clear the backlog of urgent repairs caused by extreme weather over the winter months the machine, which cost £100,000 to hire, uses a high velocity air stream to clear existing holes of any derbis and water in addition to laying and compacting new asphalt.

An additional machine is expected to arrive in the next few weeks to cover the 3,500 mile stretches of roads and pavements the council looks after.
