A community radio station has had its licence extended for another five years by media regulator OFCOM.
Erewash Sound’s community radio licence was due to expire in March, however it has now been granted a renewal until 2020.
The news has been welcomed by station co-founder and director Jeff Martin, who said: “It was an anxious time for us all, waiting for this decision, but we can now plan for another five years of delivering quality local radio for the borough of Erewash.”
Mr Martin said the success of the station was down to its volunteers.
“We have around 50 volunteers who work hard all year round to keep the radio station on air and the quality of their work is undoubtedly what makes Erewash Sound so successful,” he added.
“It’s been a real learning curve for everyone. We started in just one room, in debt, with no training facilities. We have now moved to the media centre, debt free and introduced quality training for our team.”
Erewash Sound broadcast 24 hours a day, seven days a week, on 96.8FM, online at www.erewashsound.com and on the Tunein phone app.
