Campaigners are planning a rally against a plan to build 450 homes on greenbelt land between Stapleford and Trowell this weekend.

Broxtowe borough councillors are set to decide on the plan by developers Westermans at a meeting on Wednesday.

In a last ditch effort to save the beloved green space known as Field Farm, Stapleford and Trowell Rural Action Group (STRAG) is hoping dozens of protesters –wearing green and yellow – will join them in King George’s Park in Bramcote on Saturday at 11am for a one-hour peaceful rally.

STRAG has concerns that the plan would destroy an ‘ecological corridor’ and a recreational space and worsen already heavy traffic in the area, especially if plans for 1,950 homes on the former Stanton Ironworks nearby get the go-ahead.

A spokesman said that the group is angry at the ‘insufficient’ consultation with the public over the site.
