A pioneering charity based in Kimberley that was set up in memory of a brave teenager who died in 2010 has held a fundraising ball that swelled its coffers by £2,500.

The Ryan Lee Trust was launched by husband and wife duo Shaun and Deb Lee after the tragic death of their son, Ryan, 15, who lost his battle against brain tumours four years ago.

Since the organisation began it has raised tens of thousands of pounds for specialist equipment so children can live out their final days at home, rather than in hospital.

But the need for fundraising is ever more important as the charity grows in popularity with a dedicated following on social media.

So it was vital that the ball held at the Nottingham Belftry Hotel in Nuthall was a success.

And thanks to supporters, businesses and a packed programme of entertainment, the event met its remit.

The night included magicians, jugglers, dancers, singers and other amazing acts, including local singer Megan Sugerman who opened the entertainment for the evening, which was compered by the amazing Bernie Meehan and Peter Antonio.

There was also a slideshow and speech about the work of the Ryan Lee Trust and how the charity provides vitally needed equipment and and accessories to children and teenagers diagnosed with cancer.

Deb and Shaun Lee, who live in Nuthall, said: “It was fantastic to see so many people having a great night and most importantly raising much-needed funds for the Ryan Lee Trust.

“Without the support of local people, the charity could not continue to help families that live every day with the heartbreak and fear of seeing their children live with the devastating effects of cancer.”
