An Ilkeston school has enjoyed a summer of sporting achievements to be proud of.
Having become Erewash champions in table tennis, girls football and sports hall athletics earlier this year, Chaucer Junior School has continued its string of sporting success.
On June 3, the school took part in a tri-golf tournament at Kirk Hallam Community Academy.
Overcoming various challenges, the school became Erewash champions again and qualified for the Derbyshire county final.
The following week, Chaucer’s kwik cricket teams bounced into competitive action at a series of Erewash School Sports Partnership competitions.
The girls team won all their matches, retaining the title won in 2013/14 and becoming Erewash champions once again.
Later the same week, Chaucer participated in the Erewash finals for mini tennis, where they also managed to retain their champion status.
Finally, Chaucer’s cycling team celebrated the same success at a recent event in Kirk Hallam.
The school has also taken part in other activities during June, including Quad Kids Athletics and Ilkeston District School Sports Athletics.
School coach Graham Woodcock said: “If June has been a month for Chaucer Junior School to remember, the first few days of July have the potential to be even better, as pupils prepare for four Derbyshire finals. Keep your fingers crossed for us!”
