Prospective parliamentary Labour candidate for Erewash, Catherine Atkinson, is supporting Labour’s attempt to scrap the Bedroom Tax by Christmas.

Since the Bedroom Tax was introduced around half a million low-income households have been forced to find, on average an extra £700 a year.

In Erewash, 628 people have been hit by it.

Catherine Atkinson said: “When I have been out knocking on doors in Ilkeston many people have told me they will struggle to make ends meet this Christmas because of the Bedroom Tax that David Cameron and Nick Clegg’s government introduced. It’s a very nasty tax that hits a lot of disabled people in our area and causes a great deal of misery.”

“If I was MP for Erewash I’d be voting to scrap the tax.”
