A STANTON-BY-DALE councillor, whose husband was reported missing at sea last Monday, has thanked search crews for their efforts.

Draycott parish councillor Jeffrey Clare, 66, was in a boat which sank 37 miles off the coast of France.

Coastguards began a search after a distress call was received about 8.40am.

Two other crew members were rescued but Mr Clare could not be found.

Wife, Val Clare – Erewash councillor for Stanton-by-Dale – said: “We have been informed that the search for Jeff has been called off and we would like to thank everyone involved.”
