As we approach the Christmas period, I should like to take this opportunity to urge all your readers to buy local.
I know that it can be convenient to shop on-line, but if we want to keep our High Streets alive we need to take our trade to them.
The Council are doing their bit by repeating the Free Parking at Christmas, despite continued political opposition, the traders themselves are opening up on half-day closing day, the Erewash Partnership and local businesses are really going to town to attract shoppers with events like the Ilkeston Christmas Lights switch-on this Friday and of course the Ilkeston Advertiser is making sure residents know about the shops in the town centre.
It is really good news that the Council’s Golden Hello scheme has helped four new businesses open up in Ilkeston in the last month.
May I ask all residents to buy their presents in our town centres if they possibly can this Christmas, we want our shops to be there next Christmas too.
