Mary Poppins, Mr Bump and Willy Wonker were just some of the popular fictional characters that children dressed up as for World Book Day on March 5.
The event takes place every year at schools up and down the country, and pupils at schools in Ilkeston did not fail to impress in a range of colourful and creative costumes.
Amongst those pictured are three-year-old Jack Richards from Field House Infant School who dressed as ‘Super Tato’. Bethany Smith from Cotmanhay Junior School dressed as Willy Wonker. Max Marson, four, from Charlotte Infant School dressed as a hero, and Jasmine Harris, three, was ‘Funnybones’.
Children and staff at Awsworth Primary and Nursery School made impressive efforts to look different, exchanging traditional school uniforms and clothing for more colourful attire.
Among the favourite choices were from books featuring Harry Potter and Cruella de Ville.
There were some old classics in the mix as well, with Tegan Whittaker, a pupil at Chaucer Junior School, dressing as Mary Poppins.
