Still time to have a say

I am writing with great concern about the proposed development of 700 new houses in the project known as Ilkeston West.

An article outlining the subject was printed in a recent edition of the Advertiser, however, having now studied the details of the proposal, I feel that the devastating scale of the project and the inevitable detrimental effect on the surrounding neighbourhoods has only just come to light.

The map of the proposed project shows the massive area of beautiful green field land stretching from the Peewit Golf Course to the Shipley View Estate, which will be destroyed by the development.

Hopefully you will publish this information so that people affected by the proposal will have a chance to comment to Erewash Borough Council before the deadline of October 31, 2011.

I am shocked by the lack of public knowledge about this project,

I only came across the detail by accident and no one I know has even heard of it. Imagine the surprise of the residents of West End Drive, when they find out that their road is to be the main access route for 700 houses.

According to the council, details of the project have been made available in the Ilkeston library, the only problem is they haven’t told anyone.

Perhaps, there will be a public meeting, but given the performance of the council so far, I am not holding my breath.

In conclusion, I would strongly urge residents in the area to get informed and involved.
