The condition affects around 10,600 people over 65 in the county.

Ten events were held in Derbyshire during Dementia Awareness Week, giving residents a chance to ask questions and find out more about local support groups and organisations.

Two new Dementia Action Alliances (DAAs) were launched in Amber Valley and Erewash to support communities in helping people with the condition live independently.

Tesco supermarket in Alfreton also joined in with the awareness raising, creating Derbyshire’s first dementia-friendly checkout.
