Sweet treats bring success for mums

Two Kirk Hallam mums are serving up vintage cream teas a plenty after setting up their own catering company.

Lifelong friends Joanna Burrows, 44, and Janice Stevens, 49, set up Janjo’s after Joanna was made redundant.

She said: “My background is in catering and running my own business was always something I wanted to do.

“When I was made redundant I took it as a chance to start up on my own.

“Me and Janice have catered for functions before so knew we could work together well so decided to give it a try.”

The pair hand make all of the cakes and deliver everything needed for a full vintage cream tea, including shabby chic china and tablecloths, to venues and even do the washing up afterwards.

Joanna said: “The idea is that people don’t have to do anything, we go to them, set the table and get everything ready.

“If they want us to stay and serve we do but if not we just go back after the event and wash up.”

As well as the catering side of things the duo also hire out vintage china and have enough for up to 120 people.

Joanna explained: “We have mathing sets or we can mix them up shabby chic style.

“It’s really up to people as to what they want.

“It’s been really popular especially for weddings, one of our specialities.”

Business is starting to boom for the two mums who cater for any functions from eight to 120 people.

Joanna said: “Things are going really well for us so far and we can’t wait to get some more clients.”
