Innovative students have created a calendar featuring their sixth form football team in a bid to raise money for an Ilkeston special needs school.
Joseph Parkin, 16, James Taylor, 17, and Harry Beer, 16, all students at Kirk Hallam Community Academy, came up with the idea along with fellow members of the Sixth Form Ultras.
Different players are featured each month and so far the calendar has proved to be a big hit with more than 45 copies sold.
Along with the proceeds of a cake sale and a football match, the sixth form at Kirk Hallam Community Academy has raised more than £300 for Bennerley Fields School with the target being £1,000.
Bennerley Fields is looking to raise £5,000 to pay for specialist playground equipment, including a wheelchair accessible roundabout and swing.
James said everyone was pleased with the amount they had raised so far.
He said: “We had been talking about doing a calendar anyway and after the assembly we thought it would be a good idea to do it to raise money for Bennerley Fields.
“It didn’t take long to put together and we got it all done in about three or four days. We sold about 45 copies in an hour and we will probably have to print more because of the demand.
“We don’t take ourselves too seriously and it’s just a bit of fun that is helping to raise money too.
“We really didn’t expect to sell that many so quickly.”
