AN ILKESTON teenager is leading an appeal to raise £40,000 to restore a steam train.
Passionate Ormiston Enterprise Academy student Marcello Gabrielli, 15, founded the 47357 Jinty appeal three months ago in a bid to get the steam locomotive up and running.
Marcello is a volunteer at Midland Railway in Butterley, where the 47357 engine is stored.
He said: “I’ve always been interested in trains.
“I noticed that there was no appeal in place to support this engine so I decided to set one up myself.”
So far he has raised £250 with an event selling merchandise with the train’s logo.
