Tickets transfer ‘would up council tax’

THE LEADER of Erewash Borough Council has said that allowing parking tickets to be transferred between car parks would mean a rise in council tax.

Cllr Chris Corbett was asked by the Labour group at a borough council meeting if he would allow motorists to park in more than one council car park using just one ticket – as many drivers previously had been.

The council had been accused of changing the rules to stop it happening but authority bosses said old tickets allowing transfer between car parks were printed ‘in error’.

Cllr Corbett said: “There would be a financial implication for the Erewash council taxpayers generally if the council’s car park income was reduced as a result of any changes.”

He said if residents and the borough’s Chambers of Trade would like to talk to him about it he would ‘be pleased to hear from them’.

In August Brian Arum, of Awsworth, was slapped with a £50 fine after he moved from one Ilkeston car park to another after buying a single ticket, despite thinking this was allowed because previous tickets had no warning on them.
