John Daly from Ilkeston charity Awareness For Autism.
Q Where were you born and bred and where do you live now ?
I was born in Plymouth, Devon and grew up in Truro, Cornwall . I now live in Ilkeston.
Q What are your hobbies and interests?
All things football - and most other sports. Also spending quality time with my family and socialising with my friends.
Q What is your favourite film and why?
The Goonies; it was released when I was a kid - and who didn’t want an adventure like that. I still watch it today, it never gets boring.
Q What is your biggest achievement in life?
My biggest achievement was starting Awareness For Autism.
Q What are your hopes for the future of this area?
I would like to see less “closed” shops and buildings in the town - and Ilkeston returning to the busy and thriving market town that it once was.
Q What is your favourite place to eat in Ilkeston?
I’d have to say that my favourite food is takeaway. I like Star Pizza on South Street in Ilkeston.
Q Where is your favourite local place in Derbyshire to go on a day trip? A day out at Matlock and Matlock Bath.
Q What is your idea of a perfect Saturday night?
My perfect Saturday night would be a pizza and a film with my wife and kids.
Q If you could change anything in Ilkeston what would it be?
To make it more Autism friendly.
Sadly, there are still many families that don’t venture out a lot because they feel judged, which isn’t always the fault of those that judge as they wouldn’t necessarily recognise autism.
It simply means we still have a long way to go to raise awareness of a condition that is increasing.
Q Who is your favourite person?
That would definitely be my wife.
Q Dogs or cats?
Q What will your epitaph say?
I think it would say ‘A life lived to the fullest and with no regrets.’
