Ilkeston Specialist Arts College’s new canteen served up meals for the first time this week.
The revamped kitchen will be offering new healthy meals after parents and pupils had their say on what goes on the menu as the school carried out consultations before coming up with new dishes to offer.
Kate Le Prevost, from the school, said: “It’s really important that pupils eat a healthy meal and the school wanted to make sure there was one on offer every day.
“I’d say about 60 per cent of the students have a school meal so it was important they had their say on what’s served up.
“We had some money given to us which has paid for a lick of paint, better facilities, new signage and it’s allowed new menus to be developed.
“Students seem to be enjoying the changes so far and parents approve too.”
