Town needs a train station

The interesting article (Advertiser, August 4) on the protracted negotiations about the train station highlights the continuing need for the Get Ilkeston Back on Track petition to continue.

I hope that you will now publish the petition again in the paper each week because the campaign needs to be kept in the public eye (an put pressure on these politicians who always say that there are better things to spend money on as an excuse to do nothing.)

It took over ten years to build the Channel Tunnel rail link (now HS1) from St Pancras to Dollands Moor in Kent. After the Channel Tunnel was opened in 1994 you realise what you are up against.

Surely also the train station can be seen as a regeneration project, guess what the rail workshops of Bombardier in Derby are threatened with? Closure due to lack of orders.
