AN ILKESTON optometrist has returned from a charity mission in India, helping people with poor eyesight.

Sana Asif of Specsavers in Bath Street was one of six eye specialists who travelled to Pune in India with the charity Vision Aid Overseas.

Miss Asif spent 10 days at eye clinics giving 1,340 free examinations and dispensing 680 pairs of glasses to residents. She said: “This was an amazing opportunity to make a difference to the lives of people who cannot access the quality of eye care that we take for granted at home.”
