Unite is writing to the owner of the retailer Sports Direct, Mike Ashley, to demand an urgent meeting to discuss concerns about the treatment of workers.

The union exposed the use of zero hours contracts of the entire 20,000 part-time workforce across the country, including at the Ilkeston store,

The union has already lodged a number of cases on behalf of aggrieved workers with the employment tribunal.

Unite regional secretary, Annmarie Kilcline, said: “We hope Mike Ashley will sit down with Unite to discuss how the treatment of workers at Sports Direct can be improved.”
