Erewash MP Jessica Lee pays tributes to supporters and campaigners — including the Ilkeston Advertiser — who have played a key role in securing the green light for a new railway station in Ilkeston.
The Conservative politician has led the battle for several years and took her fight to the Secretary of State for Transport.
Her efforts were backed by the ‘Tiser, which instigated a petition campaign that attracted 1,500 signatures. The document was handed in at Downing Street.
Derbyshire County Council also played an important role in securing enough funding to pave the way for a bid for extra cash from the government.
It was duly confirmed this week that Whitehall will foot the remainder of the bill for the project, which could be completed within the next 18 months.
