VIDEO: People of Amber Valley choose to stick with ‘strong Tory Government’, says Mills

Amber Valley MP Nigel Mills has said that his constituents have chosen to stick with a ‘strong Conservative Government’ after he was returned to Parliament for a second term today (May 8).

In his acceptance speech, Mr Mills paid tribute to other candidates and said he was ‘honoured’ to have been re-elected.

It had been feared that Mr Mills would lose his seat to Labour’s Kevin Gillott, but was eventually re-elected with a significantly increased majority.

He said: “What we’ve seen here today is that the people of Amber Valley have chosen to continue with a strong Conservative Government to take the country in the right direction.

“I am very honoured and very privileged to be elected for a second term to represent the people of Amber Valley.”

Mr Mills received a total of 20,160 votes, compared to Mr Gillott’s 15,901.

UKIP beat the Liberal Democrats into fourth place - securing 7,263 to the Lib Dem’s 1,360 votes. The Green Party came in fifth with 1,087 votes.
