Community litter picks and clean-ups start today as the council’s annual Borough Blitz scheme gets underway.

The month-long crackdown on litter and graffiti is the flagship project of the council’s Pride in Erewash Campaign and will see armies of volunteers ‘blitz’ all corners of Erewash.

School fields, parks and community areas will all be targeted as part of the clean up.

Local residents, organisations and schools have all signed up to get involved in community-wide clean-up events.

Cllr Barbara Harrison, Erewash Borough Council’s lead member for the environment, said: “Hundreds of people have joined us and are looking forward to ‘putting on the blitz’ with us.

“This annual event has proved an outstanding success and demonstrates clearly that by working together we can make a real difference to our community.

“This is a special year with many communities holding events to celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee and the London 2012 Olympics – so a spring-clean is just what we need to start it all off.”
