PUPILS at an Ilkeston school raised £1,940 for a leprosy chartiy by taking part in a playground workout.
Children at St Thomas Primary in Church View, raised the money for LEPRA when they took part in the sponsored event on Friday March 25.
Jill Pateman, community fundraiser for LEPRA Health in Action, said: “It’s a brilliant effort. We’re really grateful to staff, parents and children at the school.”
Pupils were taught about LEPRA Health in Action and the work it does to help people with leprosy in countries all over the world.
The cash children raised on the day will help to treat 92 people with the condition.
Leprosy is a chronic infectious disease of the skin and nerves.
Left untreated it can lead to loss of sensation in hands and feet, leading to disability through injury and sometimes blindness.
