A young Ilkeston dancer has been chosen to join one of the UK’s leading ballet companies for an all-star show coming soon to a Nottingham stage.

Sixteen-year-old Sian Hooton was selected to perform with EnglishYouth Ballet after auditioning with nearly 300 young hopefuls from across the East Midlands.

She will join the company for three performances of the classic Giselle at the Theatre Royal on July 22 and 23.

An excited Sian said: “I started dancing before I can remember. My mum took me to a pantomime when I was two and I turned to her and said I wanted to be on stage.

“I’ve always wanted to be a ballerina and it never seemed possible and now I am getting that opportunity.”

English Youth Ballet stages performances all over the country, giving young people in every region the chance to shine alongside professional dancers.

The company has helped unearth many of the country’s best talents, with dancers using it as a springboard into institutions such as the Royal Ballet Company and English National Ballet.

Sian, who studies at the Dance Teacher Training Centre in Belper, hopes the opportunity will help her fulfil her ambitions.

She said: “I’m training to be a teacher but I’d like to go to performance college and become a professional performer and then teach.”

With just ten days of rehearsals before opening night Sian is getting a crash course in professional expectations.
