Letter: Design a superhero

I’m writing to you to invite all children aged 11 and under in the East Midlands to take part in the British Heart Foundation’s (BHF) Bag It. Beat It. poster competition this September.
We would like children to design their own heart superhero, thinking about what he or she would look like, what super powers they’d have and how those powers would help to fight congenital heart disease.
The competition will support the BHF’s latest campaign, Bag It. Beat It., which urges the public to donate bags full of unwanted items to their local BHF shop. Every bag donated will help fund life-saving heart research, helping little heroes continue to fight congenital heart disease.
An estimated 4,000 children with congenital heart defects (1), often limiting their physical ability and quality of life, will start school this year but nearly 400 of their potential classmates will have lost their life before reaching school age (2). By supporting Bag it. Beat it. vital funds will be raised for further research.
Congenital heart disease affects children across the UK, little heroes like Dan, the face of Bag it. Beat it. who was born with a hole in his heart. At nine years old, his family was devastated to hear he needed life-saving open-heart surgery to fix a 10mm hole in his heart. Dan fought back, recovered from surgery and was determined to get back to school and within six weeks, he did.
Entries can be submitted on A4 or A3 sheets of paper, or by email. Paper entries should be sent to: Bag It. Beat It. competition, FAO Samantha Bandak, British Heart Foundation, Greater London House, 180 Hampstead Road, London, NW1 7AW.
Alternatively, entries can be emailed as an attachment to bagit@bhf.org.uk with the subject line: Bag It. Beat It. competition. The closing date for entries is Friday 26th September.
One winner and one runner up will have their drawing made into a soft toy for them to keep, made by Just-Cuddle.com.
The winner’s drawing will be made into a poster which will be displayed in all 735 BHF shops throughout the UK during October.
The winner will also have the opportunity to take part in a photoshoot outside their local BHF shop. Full terms and conditions can be found at http://bagit.bhf.org.uk/poster-ts-and-cs/.
To find your local BHF shop or to book a FREE collection of your unwanted items visit: bagit.bhf.org.uk or call 0800 915 7000.
